πŸ”Ž Position Overview

As an Accountant I, you will support grant accounting, reconciliations, compliance, and financial reporting. You will ensure proper financial tracking for sponsored projects, collaborate with various departments, and contribute to fiscal accuracy & accountability.

πŸ“‹ Key Responsibilities:

βœ… Grant Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and submit initial expenditure reports for departmental approvals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate refund documentation for sponsors.
  • Assist in monthly and quarterly reconciliations for general ledger accounts.

βœ… NIH Grant Drawdowns & Compliance

  • Process NIH bi-weekly grant drawdowns ensuring compliance with federal guidelines.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of expired awards and address discrepancies.
  • Work closely with departments to identify & resolve financial discrepancies.

βœ… Audit & Compliance Support

  • Support financial system accuracy by inputting and verifying data.
  • Assist Quality Assurance (QA) staff with financial audits and compliance checks.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports as needed.

βœ… Collaboration & Problem-Solving

  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams to address financial reporting questions.
  • Provide proactive solutions for financial reconciliation issues.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records in accordance with UMB policies.

🎯 Required Skills & Qualifications:

πŸŽ“ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field with at least 9 accounting credits.
πŸ“Š Experience: Entry-level to mid-level knowledge of grants & contracts preferred.
πŸ“’ Communication: Ability to communicate effectively across departments.
πŸ“ˆ Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience using financial software & Microsoft Office Suite (Excel proficiency required).
    πŸ”Ž Detail-Oriented: Ability to analyze financial data & ensure compliance.
    πŸš€ Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to financial challenges.
