The Honolulu office of Stantec is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to join our team of dedicated water professionals. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing degrees in civil or environmental engineering to gain valuable hands-on experience in water-related infrastructure projects.


Key Responsibilities:

As a Civil Engineering Intern, your tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Gaining exposure to water-related infrastructure projects and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary teams on various water projects across California and the western U.S.
  • Conducting technical evaluations that support the planning and design of water supply, treatment, and wastewater projects.
  • Coordinating with project managers, engineers, clients, regulatory agencies, and contractors to ensure project success.
  • Assisting technical staff with various tasks, including research, compiling project data, preparing reports, and performing calculations for design projects.
  • Utilizing CAD and GIS for design tasks, with opportunities to learn and apply these tools.
  • Assisting with fieldwork, including water quality sampling and data collection.
  • Handling project administration, which involves preparing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, and maintaining progress reports.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support the project team effectively.

Qualifications & Skills:

To be successful in this internship, candidates should possess the following:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams and engage with clients and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to participate in fieldwork as required.

Education & Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in (or within four months of completing) a Bachelor’s degree or pursuing a Master’s degree in civil/environmental engineering or a related field.
  • Relevant coursework or exposure to areas such as CAD, modeling, engineering analysis, hydraulics, and water/wastewater treatment processes is beneficial.

Work Environment:

The internship primarily involves a typical office setting, where you’ll work with computers for extended periods. Fieldwork may require exposure to outdoor elements, including varying weather conditions.
