🛠️ Job Summary
HDR, a global employee-owned firm, is seeking a highly motivated Construction Engineer to support infrastructure and freight rail projects based out of Kansas City, MO. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in civil infrastructure, field inspections, and construction engineering. 🔧 Key Responsibilities

Perform complex field engineering tasks and construction oversight

Coordinate documentation, bidding, scheduling, and cost monitoring

Manage RFIs, submittals, and project correspondence
-
Conduct and document site inspections for roads, bridges, pipelines, railroads, water/wastewater systems, and more

Prepare and submit daily reports with logs, site photos, and personnel activities
-
Sample and test materials (e.g., concrete slump tests, compaction tests)

Utilize survey equipment and interpret construction schedules

Travel 50–100% for site inspections and project meetings (long-term assignments possible)

Work outdoors year-round, navigating active construction sites

Support client relations and project development initiatives
✅ Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

Professional Engineer (PE) license
-
Proven construction engineering experience
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office, CPM scheduling, and web-based collaboration tools

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
-
Must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing
⭐ Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of experience in construction engineering

Experience with DOT and freight rail infrastructure

Knowledge of steel structures, trusses, and rail safety standards

Familiarity with PDF editing software (e.g., Bluebeam Revu)

Experience using survey and testing equipment

Inspection certifications (concrete, soil, etc.) a plus

Cost analysis and general accounting knowledge
