🛠️ Job Summary

HDR, a global employee-owned firm, is seeking a highly motivated Construction Engineer to support infrastructure and freight rail projects based out of Kansas City, MO. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in civil infrastructure, field inspections, and construction engineering. You’ll join a diverse, inclusive team committed to making impactful changes in communities across the nation.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex field engineering tasks and construction oversight

• Coordinate documentation, bidding, scheduling, and cost monitoring

• Manage RFIs, submittals, and project correspondence

• Conduct and document site inspections for roads, bridges, pipelines, railroads, water/wastewater systems, and more

• Prepare and submit daily reports with logs, site photos, and personnel activities

• Sample and test materials (e.g., concrete slump tests, compaction tests)

• Utilize survey equipment and interpret construction schedules

• Travel 50–100% for site inspections and project meetings (long-term assignments possible)

• Work outdoors year-round, navigating active construction sites

• Support client relations and project development initiatives

✅ Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

• Professional Engineer (PE) license

• Proven construction engineering experience

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, CPM scheduling, and web-based collaboration tools

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

• Must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing

⭐ Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in construction engineering

• Experience with DOT and freight rail infrastructure

• Knowledge of steel structures, trusses, and rail safety standards

• Familiarity with PDF editing software (e.g., Bluebeam Revu)

• Experience using survey and testing equipment

• Inspection certifications (concrete, soil, etc.) a plus

• Cost analysis and general accounting knowledge
