π About the Role
The Department of Physics & Astronomy is seeking a Financial Services Analyst to provide financial and analytical support to faculty, researchers, staff, and students. Under the guidance of the Financial Administrative Officer, you will play a crucial role in managing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and maintaining fiscal integrity of department funds.
This position involves ledger reconciliations, payroll support, pro-card transfers, financial reporting, and other general accounting duties. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and proactive, with the ability to analyze financial data and assist in maintaining accounts in an auditable and reportable condition.
As a University of California (UC) employee, you will be required to comply with University policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable government directives.
π Key Responsibilities
πΉ Financial & Accounting Support: Assist in managing departmental budgets, fund reconciliations, and expense tracking to ensure accurate financial reporting.
πΉ Ledger Reconciliation & Fund Monitoring: Review financial records, transactions, and encumbrances to maintain fiscal integrity.
πΉ Payroll & General Accounting: Support payroll processes, pro-card transactions, and financial adjustments as needed.
πΉ Compliance & Auditing: Ensure adherence to University and federal/state financial policies to maintain an auditable financial environment.
πΉ Data & Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly and year-end financial reports, tracking expenditures, and updating financial databases.
πΉ Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with faculty, researchers, and administrative staff to support financial operations.
πΉ Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for streamlining financial processes and enhancing departmental efficiencies.
β Required Qualifications & Skills
β Bachelorβs degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
β Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and reconcile financial data.
β Knowledge of accounting principles, financial management, and budget analysis.
β Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
β Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity and discretion.
β Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
β Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with diverse teams.
β Experience in higher education, research administration, or fund accounting is a plus.
