The Department of State Hospitals-Napa (DSH-Napa) Social Work Department is seeking dedicated and passionate Graduate Student Assistants to join our team. We have multiple intermittent-Actual Time Worked vacancies, providing an exceptional opportunity for hands-on training in a clinical social work setting. This role is ideal for graduate students pursuing their Master’s in Social Work (MSW) who are eager to gain real-world experience in a psychiatric hospital environment.

About the Position:

This position is open to graduate students entering their second-year MSW internship who have successfully completed their first-year in-person field practicum internship. This role allows students to develop their clinical and case management skills, engage in patient advocacy, and collaborate with licensed social workers in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

✔ Be enrolled in an MSW program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE).
✔ Have successfully completed a first-year in-person Field Practicum Internship.
✔ Be entering their second-year MSW internship.
✔ Be enrolled in a graduate school that has a contractual agreement with DSH-Napa.
✔ Provide proof of enrollment from their graduate school.
✔ Be required to complete at least 20 hours of internship per week (this internship requires 24 hours per week).
✔ Be available to complete the full internship period from September through May.

Key Responsibilities:

📌 Participate in direct patient services under the supervision of licensed social workers.
📌 Assist in case management, patient assessments, and discharge planning.
📌 Work within a multidisciplinary team to support the needs of patients.
📌 Gain experience in state hospital social work practices and protocols.
📌 Develop professional skills in mental health, crisis intervention, and behavioral health.
