The Telecommunications Associate (Voice), Level III, plays a critical role in emergency communication systems within NYPDβs 911 operations. This position ensures reliable, responsive, and secure telecommunications networks to support emergency response efforts.
π§ Job Overview β Telecommunications Associate (Voice), Level III
As a Telecommunications Associate (Voice), Level III, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing voice communication technologies across NYC’s emergency response systems. This role involves working with:
π‘ Telecommunications Networks: Telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic, and cellular services
π Systems Analysis & Planning: Design, review, and implementation of telecom solutions
π¨ Emergency Communication Systems: Ensuring uninterrupted 911 operations
π Regulatory & Compliance Oversight: Participate in public safety change control meetings
π Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve system issues
In this role, you will serve as an NYPD subject matter expert for the NextGen 911 Program, helping to enhance operations and improve interagency emergency response coordination.
π Key Responsibilities
βοΈ Telecommunications System Management
- Oversee 911 voice communication systems, ensuring they are functional and efficient.
- Conduct technical evaluations of existing communication networks.
- Implement upgrades and improvements to optimize performance.
βοΈ NextGen 911 Integration & Public Safety Initiatives
- Collaborate with multi-agency teams to improve emergency communication infrastructure.
- Review technical changes to minimize disruptions to emergency services.
βοΈ Technical Support & Operations
- Provide expert recommendations to senior management on telecommunications best practices.
- Address service disruptions, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure system resilience.
βοΈ Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal telecom regulations.
- Maintain detailed documentation on system operations, updates, and security protocols.
π Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
1οΈβ£ Bachelorβs Degree (with 24 semester credits in telecom-related courses) + 1 year of relevant experience
2οΈβ£ Associate Degree (with 12 semester credits in telecom-related courses) + 2 years of relevant experience
3οΈβ£ High School Diploma (or equivalent) + 3 years of relevant experience
4οΈβ£ Equivalent combination of education & experience (including coursework in voice telecommunications, telecom technology, electronics, or physics)
Additional Requirement for Level IV Placement:
- Must have two additional years of full-time experience in telecommunications planning, management, or service.
- At least one year must be in a consultative or supervisory capacity.

πΉ 3+ years of full-time experience in voice telecommunications or electronics service environments
πΉ Expertise in telecommunications planning, management, or operations
πΉ Experience in public safety communication systems
πΉ Strong problem-solving & technical troubleshooting skills
πΉ Knowledge of NextGen 911, radio systems, and fiber optic networks
